Outdoor & RecreationDay Trips
Cathedral Caverns State Park
A huge cave with guided tours and a giant stalagmite called Goliath, about 30 to 40 minutes from Huntsville.

A Cave You Can Walk Into
Cathedral Caverns State Park is at 637 Cave Road in Woodville, about 30 to 40 minutes from Huntsville, and it is one of the region's best half-day trips. The cave is known for its huge entrance chamber and for Goliath, one of the largest stalagmites in the world. It stands about 45 feet tall.
Tours
Visits are by guided tour, so check the official site for tour times and current pricing before you drive out. The cave is cool year-round, which makes it a good escape on a hot summer day.
Combine It
Pair it with lunch in Madison or head back to Downtown Huntsville for dinner. For more outdoors, see our list of outdoor adventures.
