Huntsville Botanical Garden
More than 100 acres of gardens and woodland paths, a seasonal butterfly house, and the Galaxy of Lights holiday display.

A Big, Green Reset
The Huntsville Botanical Garden is at 4747 Bob Wallace Avenue and has been growing since 1988. It covers more than 100 acres of gardens, woodland paths, and meadows, and it is the best place in town to slow down after a day of rockets and museums.
What You Will See
The grounds include aquatic, annual, daylily, fern, herb, perennial, rose, and wildflower gardens, plus a nature path and a collection of flowering dogwoods. Kids tend to head for the Giant Troll Garden and Maze. The Purdy Butterfly House is billed as the nation's largest open-air butterfly house, and it is open seasonally, April 22 to October 11 in 2026.
Galaxy of Lights
From mid-November through December the garden turns into the Galaxy of Lights, an award-winning light display with custom-made displays that is among the largest in the country. It is one of the most popular holiday outings in North Alabama, so buy tickets ahead if you can.
Plan the Day
Pair it with the U.S. Space & Rocket Center nearby, on the same side of town. The garden is open year-round for an admission fee, so check the official site for current hours and prices.
