Hayrides, corn mazes, U-pick pumpkins, sunflowers and apples, all within about an hour of downtown Huntsville. Here are the farms worth the drive this fall, with 2026 dates, hours and prices.
Fall around Huntsville means farm country. Head north toward Meridianville and Hazel Green, or south toward Hartselle, and within half an hour or so you are out among cotton fields and pumpkin patches, with hayrides running all afternoon. A trip to a pumpkin patch is one of the most reliable family outings of the year here, and the farms below are the ones we would point a friend to.
Every main pick on this list is within about an hour of downtown Huntsville, and every farm here has posted its own schedule for this season. The descriptions of what each farm offers carry over from year to year. The lines marked 2026 are this season's dates, hours and prices, taken from each farm's own website. Farms change hours for weather and close early on rainy days, so check the farm's page or social accounts the morning you go.
Tate Farms - The Big Classic in Meridianville
Tate Farms is the pumpkin patch most Huntsville families grew up with, and it is still the one to beat. The Tate family has farmed this land since the 1800s, started growing pumpkins in 1996, and now plants more than 80 acres of them. A hayride takes you out to the field to pick a jack-o'-lantern off the vine, and the farmyard back at the barns is big enough to fill an entire afternoon.
Admission covers almost everything: a 6-acre corn maze, four corn cribs full of the farm's own corn to dig and swim in, a two-story play barn with a pair of 60-foot slides off the silo, three jumping pillows, pedal carts, carpet fun slides, a tractor-pulled corn train, barnyard animals, and the Dairy-Go-Round, a farm-animal carousel built in Italy for Tate Farms. Smaller kids get their own Little Farmer Playground for ages 7 and under. The apple cannons are the one extra charge. On Saturdays in October there is live music and balloon art.
You will not go hungry. The Country Kitchen does BBQ, chicken fingers and burgers, the farm bakery is in the Country Store, and the Pumpkin Slushy has a following of its own. For a sit-down meal, the family also runs Tate's Table, a reservation-only, family-style lunch and supper on the farm.

Lyon Family Farms - The Big Corn Maze Day Over the State Line
Lyon Family Farms sits just across the Tennessee line in Taft, and it is worth the extra few minutes. Richard and Shelley Lyon started the pumpkin patch in 2006, and the farm bills itself as the largest pumpkin patch in the Tennessee Valley. Wagon rides run out to the U-pick field, and every pumpkin costs the same no matter how big you go.
The corn maze is the main event. The 2026 maze is a patriotic "250 Years of Freedom" pattern with an eagle, a flag and the Statue of Liberty cut into the field. Around the farmyard you will find ziplines, the Rat Roller, a cow train, a petting zoo, rubber duck races, giant slides, a pillow bounce, a corn box, and pig races, plus U-pick sunflowers and zinnias for photos. Some activities are included and some come on punch cards, so look at the farm map before you go.
Food runs from burgers and hot dogs to ribeye sandwiches, roasted corn, caramel apples and homemade fudge. You are also allowed to bring your own food and drinks (no alcohol or personal grills). Parking is free. Pets are not allowed, apart from service animals.

Lyon calls the whole season its annual Fall Festival, and we have it on the calendar as Lyon Family Farms Fall Festival 2026. Friday nights are the pick if you want the fireworks.
Hidden Rivers Farm - The Best Value for Little Kids
Hidden Rivers Farm in Hartselle is smaller and more relaxed than the big two, and the price reflects it. An online day pass costs less than half of what the bigger farms charge, and it still covers a long list of things to do. That makes it an easy pick if you have toddlers or a big group of cousins.
The pass includes the maze, nature trails, an animal area, a jump pad, a zip line, a corn pit, bumper balls, game barns, a scarecrow-making station, a playground, a tire obstacle course, bubble wells, duck races, ga-ga ball and one shot from the apple cannon. Pumpkins, the hayride, pony rides, animal feed, gem mining and food are extra. There is a kitchen on site, or you can bring your own food. Football fans get a tailgate tent with two TVs and cornhole, so nobody has to miss the game.

Hubert Family Farms - Sunflowers and Fall Flowers in New Market
Hubert Family Farms is not a pumpkin patch. It is a New Market family farm with a long history in corn, cotton, wheat and soybeans that has added cut flowers: tulips in spring, and in fall a Fall Flower Festival with fields of sunflowers, zinnias, cosmos and marigolds. If your family photos matter more to you than the corn maze, this is the prettiest stop on the list.
You grab a bucket and clippers, cut as much as you like, and fill the bucket at the watering station for the ride home. The Farmhouse Bucket holds 30 or more stems and you keep the bucket. The farm also has an animal barn, a playground, a wagon ride, face painting and a farmhouse gift shop, and many weekends bring a local vendors market, food trucks and live music.
- Drive time: about 25 minutes northeast of downtown
- Address: 432 Narrow Lane, New Market, AL 35761
- 2026 season: opened September 16. The farm posts field updates and its closing date on Facebook and Instagram, so check there before late-October visits.
- 2026 hours: Wednesday through Sunday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Closed Mondays and Tuesdays.
- 2026 admission: $8 day pass, $16 season pass, 2 and under free
- 2026 flowers: Farmhouse Bucket $20, all you can fit

For something fall-themed, the farm's Pumpkin Floral Arrangement class on Wednesday, October 7, 2026 at 5:30 p.m. has you arranging field flowers in a real pumpkin. It costs $45 and includes admission, flowers and the pumpkin, and space is limited.
Scott's Orchard - U-Pick Apples in Hazel Green
Scott's Orchard is an apple orchard, not a pumpkin farm, but picking apples is just as much a fall tradition around here. The season starts on Labor Day and runs into mid-October. You reserve a time and pick into a half-peck bag (about 12 apples) or a peck bag (about 24). Which varieties are ripe changes week to week through September and October.
Admission includes a play area with a swing set, a bounce pad, a bubble station and story-board trails through the trees, and food trucks come out on Saturdays. Even if you skip the picking, the farm store is free to walk into and sells fruit slushies, fried pies, baked goods, ice cream, local honey and apples.
- Drive time: about 40 minutes north of downtown
- Address: 2163 Scott Road, Hazel Green, AL 35750

Worth the Longer Drive: 4D Farm in Cullman
4D Farm is outside our one-hour radius, at roughly an hour and 20 minutes south of downtown, but it is a full-size fall farm if you want to make a day of it. General admission covers the corn maze, unlimited amusement rides, a tubing slide, a hayride, a cow train, live pig races, a singing chicken show, a play barn, farm animals, a corn barn, an obstacle course and more across 40-plus acres. Save room for the apple cider donuts, which are made on the farm.
- Address: 7066 County Road 703, Cullman, AL 35055

Tips for a Better Farm Day
- Go on a weekday afternoon if you can. Saturdays in October are packed everywhere. 4D labels its Thursdays as calmer and prices them lower, and Lyon's Discount Tuesdays save a few dollars.
- Buy online. Hidden Rivers and 4D charge less online than at the gate, and Tate Farms sells season passes online only.
- Check the weather and the farm's social pages the morning you go. Farms close for rain, and hours can change mid-season.
- Wear shoes you do not mind getting muddy. Pumpkin fields and orchards mean red clay, gravel and uneven ground. Closed-toe shoes are the move.
- Leave the dog at home unless you have checked. Lyon and 4D do not allow pets.
- Budget for extras. Admission rarely includes the pumpkin you take home, and things like apple cannons, pony rides and gem mining cost more. Tate's apple cannons are card only.
- Plan on three hours or more. At Tate, Lyon and 4D, a rushed visit is a wasted ticket.
